Admissions

Ashgate Nursery School follows the admissions arrangements made by Derby City Council.  Parents who wish to have a nursery school place should contact the nursery and place their child’s name on the waiting list.  Children are eligible for a funded nursery place the term after their third birthday.  Nursery schools often have long waiting lists and it may not always be possible to provide every child with a place. Where applications for nursery places exceed the places available, the Governors will use the following criteria to allocate places.

Admission criteria for a funded place in our nursery:

The criteria are intended to ensure that those children in greatest need have access to funded nursery places.

1.Children who are the subject of a Child Protection Plan.

2.Children who are looked after by a local authority in accordance with Section 22(1) of the Children Act 1989

3.Children who have a statement of Special Educational Needs under the 1981 Education Act.

4.Children who have medical, educational or social needs which could significantly affect the child’s development.

5. Age of child.

6. Length of time on waiting list

The school has some places which flexibly offer the 15 funded hours over two and a half days.  If there is a high demand for these places the above first four points of the criteria will be used and then in line with the following. Children who are accessing fifteen hours of funded education at Ashgate Nursery or Central Nursery School.

1. Working families

2. If a particular session is full then a waiting list will be created and length of time on waiting list will be considered

If a particular session is full then a waiting list will be created and length of time on waiting list will be considered

Criteria for allocation for fifteen hours of funded two year old provision

Children can access a free two year old place if their parents receive certain benefits.  For more information please click here to visit our two year old page.  For children who qualify then the following criteria apply.

1. Children who will be accessing fifteen hours of funded education at Ashgate Nursery School

2. If a particular session is full then a waiting list will be created and length of time on waiting list will be considered

Because of the movement of families in and out of the area children can be admitted at any time during the academic year, following the criteria set out above. This will keep the nursery at full capacity and offer best value.
